Why FCL Was Created
Built for Founders, Not for Bureaucracy
FCL started as a sell-side M&A advisory firm — helping lower middle market founders navigate the sale of their businesses. But something became clear early on.
Unlike the large institutional clients I had advised throughout my career — McDonald’s, American Airlines, Delta — these founders were running genuinely successful businesses, but without the financial discipline, operational infrastructure, or strategic frameworks that larger companies take for granted. The opportunity to create real, lasting value was everywhere.
Selling their companies and collecting a fee at closing felt like leaving that value on the table.
So I made a different choice. Instead of moving on after each transaction, I decided to stay — partnering directly with founders to build what their businesses were capable of becoming. That meant walking away from a guaranteed cash fee at closing and taking equity instead, knowing I wouldn’t see a return for years, and only if the business performed.
That’s the bet FCL is built on. Not a fee for services rendered — but a shared stake in what comes next.
