Alejandro Toro

CEO-in-Residence, Logistics

Founder-operator experience in specialty distribution and food logistics, applied to founder-led businesses navigating ownership transitions and operational growth.

Alejandro Toro is an entrepreneur and operator with more than 20 years of experience building, scaling, and successfully exiting a founder-led business in the food and logistics industry. He holds a degree in International Business and Finance from Florida International University and began his career in finance, where he launched his first company in the factoring industry, an early indicator of the entrepreneurial instinct that would define his path.

In 2009, Alejandro founded Vega Produce, a specialty produce company focused on sourcing and distributing premium fruits and vegetables from markets around the world. Under his leadership, Vega Produce became a recognized operator in the specialty distribution space, known for its global sourcing network, commitment to quality, and sustainability practices. The company served as a platform for Alejandro to develop deep expertise in supply chain management, vendor relationships, and the operational discipline required to scale a distribution business.

In 2022, Alejandro successfully sold Vega Produce to GrubMarket, the largest food technology company in the United States. Following the acquisition, he remained with the business as CEO of one of GrubMarket’s key operating divisions, leading its continued growth as the company prepares for an IPO. That experience of building a company from the ground up, navigating a sale, and continuing to operate through a major transition gives him a rare and practical perspective on what founders actually face.

Applying Founder and Operator Experience in Logistics and Distribution

Alejandro’s background spans both sides of a business transition, as the founder who built and sold, and as the operator who leads through post-close growth and integration. That dual perspective is rare, and it directly addresses one of the most common concerns founders have when considering a sale: what happens to the business, the team, and the culture after the deal closes.

His experience in specialty distribution, global sourcing, and supply chain execution gives him a grounded understanding of the operational and leadership challenges that logistics and distribution businesses face at the moment of transition, and what it takes to come out stronger on the other side.
